I'm Liz Walsh, and I'm running for Howard County Council District 1.

I'm a civil engineer, a lawyer and a mom, running a true grassroots campaign without taking a dime of developer money. And today is the day! To win this election. To champion our schools, our neighborhoods, our towns.

Today! -- Tuesday November 6th -- polls will be open from 7 am 'til 8 pm. Need help locating your polling place? You can use this link: https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/PollingPlaceSe…

Make a plan. Bring a friend, a neighbor, your family or your co-worker. And change how our local government works!

Vote Liz Walsh. Vote like your town depends on it.

you're doing your homework today, right?

You're doing your homework today, right? Finding out where your candidates stand on matters most important to you? Oh good. We love an informed voter. Let us help you.

Here's one of our favorite excerpts from our last candidates' forum held by the Savage Community Association, on October 22. The overall focus was Route 1, and the specific question asked was: "Is there a real vision for the Route 1 corridor?"

My answer: Sure, we know what we need. We've known it for a long time. Existing County plans talk all about it: Focus on commercial development, on streetscapes, on walkable communities that connect with one another. It never happens, though.

Our local government never invests in it. In fact, in the last four years, the County's capital budget for Route 1 revitalization was *defunded,* by more than $6 million. And the current head of the County's Department of Planning and Zoning, he went so far as to suggest that a developer's proposal to build highest-density residential units across from Ducketts Lane was part of the County's ongoing revitalization efforts. That's not a plan. That's not how government's supposed to work. That's got to change. We need to invest in Route 1, to make something workable and liveable for all of us.

You're still doing your homework today? Finding out where your candidates stand on matters most important to you? Oh good. We love an informed voter. Let us help you.

Here's another of our favorite excerpts, this time from the September 26 candidates' forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Howard County. Questions spanned all sorts of topics, from senior housing to the opioid epidemic. The particular audience inquiry at the link was: "What do you anticipate doing in the next four years to move the County forward, District 1 in particular?"

My answer: Eliminate a system of politics that seems to depend on division. Figure out how to have these really important conversations, find really important solutions that work -- in the long term -- without the division, without the rhetoric.

Civil Engineer + Lawyer = Liz Walsh for Howard County Council

What happens when a Mount Hebron Viking ('89), a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech (and a helluva civil engineer), and a Georgetown lawyer starts asking questions about why more isn't being done to control over-development in the hills above her centuries-old hometown, and local government gives her the run-around?

She runs for office.

Enough.

I’ve had enough of the hate.

The fear-mongering.

The politicians who bellow out the same old toxic lies. And the ones who whisper the carefully coded cues.

As though their words don’t have real, terrible consequences. On real human beings.
I’ve had enough of the politicians standing right next to that first lot, too, who bear witness to the same awful rhetoric—again and again and again—and say and do nothing to stop it.

Enough. No more.

This grassroots campaign of ours faces forward—to good and right and lasting change—for everyone. For all of us, for #OneforAll.

Election Day is this Tuesday, November 6. How about you please make sure you get out there, and #VoteLikeYouMeanIt.

We sure will.❤️
